FAQ

Honest answers, before you commit $10 a month.

Six questions Emberveil hears from rural landowners every week — what we know, what we don't, and what changes if you subscribe. No marketing fluff, no “contact us for details.”

01

How accurate are your data sources — and where do they come from?

Emberveil ingests only publicly published, government-grade feeds: NASA FIRMS thermal anomalies (VIIRS + MODIS), NOAA/NWS fire-weather point forecasts, and USGS vegetation & drought indices. We never invent a "risk score" — every alert links back to the raw timestamp, satellite pass, and meterological station it came from.

Parcels are pinned using parcel boundaries you draw on the map (or a county APN lookup), and our models run nightly over those polygons. Confidence is reported per alert, not hidden — a low-confidence smoke report is labeled exactly that, not promoted to "fire detected."

The free NOAA + FIRIS dashboards below let you cross-check any Emberveil alert against the source.

02

How often will I get a false alarm — and how are alerts tiered?

Tier 1 (Advisory) fires only when fuels + humidity + wind cross a threshold — typically 2–4 per month per parcel during fire season, almost none off-season. These arrive as email only and never wake you up. Tier 2 (Watch) fires when a thermal anomaly is detected within 10 km in the last 6 hours; Tier 3 (Alert) is reserved for confirmed satellite-detected heat signatures inside your parcel boundary or an evacuation-order trigger.

You choose which tiers go to SMS vs email at enrollment, and you can downgrade any tier to email-only from your dashboard. We measure false-alarm rate per parcel monthly and publish the rolling 90-day figure in the Q1 analyst report — if a tier is missing its target, we tighten the threshold for everyone, not just for you.

Compare tier weights side by side.

03

How do I cancel, and what happens to the unused month I already paid for?

Cancellation is a single click from your property dashboard — it opens the Stripe billing portal where you can cancel the subscription outright or schedule it to end at the period boundary. We don't require an email, a phone call, or a retention conversation. Coverage stays active until the end of the current paid month; there is no prorated partial charge.

If you cancel within 14 days of your first charge, we issue a full refund automatically — no support ticket, no form. After 14 days we do not refund partial months, but you keep access for the remainder of the period you paid for. To re-enroll later you can use the same property; all historical alerts and reports carry forward.

Ready to start, or change your mind later?

Either route works — start monitoring one parcel at a time, cancel any time.

04

Can I use Emberveil output at insurance renewal — and what proof do you provide?

Yes. Every parcel exports a quarterly "Defensible-Space Packet" as a signed PDF: the parcel boundary, the weekly risk score with the date stamps of every alert you received, the Tier-1/2/3 distribution for the quarter, and a tamper-evident hash. Most carriers we've spoken with accept it alongside a County wildfire-risk score, and several apply a small premium credit when the packet shows documented Tier-3 alerts within the renewal window.

You can download the latest packet any time from the dashboard — it is not gated behind a higher tier. If your underwriter asks for raw data, the underlying FIRMS + NOAA entries are public; we ship a one-page "provenance" appendix so your agent or broker can verify each number without trusting us.

Insurance-grade output is on the Standard tier.

Pair the packet with weekly PDF reports and the priority alert queue.

05

Is Emberveil useful outside California, Oregon, and Colorado yet?

Today, Emberveil is calibrated for the three-state Western corridor — California, Oregon, and Colorado — because those are where the underlying FIRMS + NOAA feeds are densest, and where our analysts have ground-truthed the alert thresholds. If your parcel sits inside one of the active counties in California, Oregon, or Colorado, you can enroll today and receive the full Tier-1 / Tier-2 / Tier-3 alert stack.

If your parcel is NOT in those three states — say Nevada, Arizona, Idaho, Washington, New Mexico, Utah, Montana, or Wyoming — visit the coverage page before you give up. We extend coverage roughly 14% new geography each year as our calibration set expands, and you can join the county-level waitlist there so we can let you know the day your county comes online.

Is your county covered?

The coverage page lists every county Emberveil monitors today, and lets you join the county-level waitlist for places outside the corridor.

06

How do I stop the SMS alerts if I change my mind?

Reply STOP to any Emberveil text — that opts the sending number out within seconds and we sync it back to your profile so the dashboard reflects the change. Reply HELP for the rate-of-notification disclosure and a link back here. There is no fee for opting out and no "are you sure" loop.

If you only want to mute a single tier (Tier-2 SMS but keep Tier-3) you can do that in the dashboard without touching the others, and the setting persists across billing cycles. SMS tiers are also disabled by default during "Red Flag Warning" windows in your county to reduce alarm fatigue — review that checkbox at enrollment and any time from your profile.

Still on the fence?

The answers above are the same ones we give on the phone. If you want to ask a seventh, the contact page routes to a real person — and if you're ready to commit, the pricing page and the parcel-by-parcel enrollment are a click away.
